Treatment of Personality Disorder in Forensic Settings

This event was proposed by Adreana Adamson, Chief Executive of the State Hospital, Carstairs, after she opened the IAFP’s annual conference in Edinburgh in 2011. The other partners in the meeting are the Scottish Personality Disorder Network, headed by Dr Linda Treliving, a Consultant Psychiatrist in Psychotherapy, and the Forensic Mental Health Network. The over-arching theme of the conference is the challenges of treating personality-disordered offenders: when and why do they become “patients”, what are the contributions of psychosis and substance misuse, and when is forensic psychotherapy a viable treatment approach? It is hoped that the Scottish Minister for Communities will open the meeting.
